Description The Database Administrator is responsible for managing the database environment, planning and executing database backups and restores, and monitoring and tuning the performance of the database servers over time. JOB DUTIES / KNOWLEDGE 1. Install and test new versions, service packs and cumulative updates for SQL Server. 2. Maintain strong data security by closely managing logins, permissions and roles. 3. Develop, manage and test backup and recovery plans. 4. Monitor overall performance of servers and make corrections where necessary. 5. Tune poorly performing queries. 6. Assist developers in design of complex queries. 7. Review all newly developed SQL code for performance and adherence to standards. 8. Create and maintain database documentation. 9. Maintain a high level of industry knowledge (reading, conferences, and certifications). 10. Collaborate with infrastructure team for capacity planning servers. 11. Collaborate with developers in the creation of the logical design of databases. 12. Manage replication and mirroring for large databases. 13. Develop and maintain coding standards and best practice procedures. 14. Assist and mentor other DBAs where needed in their field of expertise. 15. Attend to failed critical scheduled jobs after hours. 16. Attend and actively participates in meetings/conferences. 17. Perform other duties as assigned to include work on special projects. MST Requirements QUALIFICATIONS 1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field. (May be substituted by equivalent combination of education and experience) 2. Five (5+) years of experience in SQL Server database administration. 3. Strong understanding of relational database design concepts. 4. Performance analysis and query tuning experience. 5. Knowledge of database maintenance, backup and recovery processes. 6. Experience with SQL Server replication. 7. Must be willing to attend to failed critical scheduled jobs after hours. 8. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) SQL Server certification preferred. 9. Excellent oral and written communications skills. 10. Ability to work well within a team and project environment. 11. Ability to operate effectively within a complex, dynamic environment. 12. Ability to work under pressure on a number of different projects simultaneously. 13. Commitment to keeping abreast of technology and sharing that knowledge with others. 14. Experience with healthcare information systems preferred. 15. Qualified candidates maybe asked for sample code. *CB* |
